Nelson Santana is a Librarian and Assistant Professor at Bronx Community College, CUNY. His research interests include the social and cultural history of Latin American migrants in the United States and the role of libraries and archives in underserved communities. Santana is an alum of t九色视频 and a former Librarian at CUNY DSI.  Among Santana鈥檚 publications is 鈥淭he Tancredo Martinez Assassination Attempt: Frances Grant and Communistic Discourses,鈥 in Revista Estudios Sociales (enero/junio 2022). As a CUNY DSI Research Fellow, Santana will craft the first academic monograph about the founding of Club C铆vico y Cultural Juan Pablo Duarte (today known as Instituto Duartiano of New York), one of the earliest Dominican organizations in New York City, founded in 1966. Santana鈥檚 project 鈥淒uarte鈥檚 Children: The Political Theology of the Club C铆vico y Cultural Juan Pablo Duarte,鈥 will examine how the organization came into being and the rationale beyond its members鈥 to locate Juan Pablo Duarte鈥檚 statue, one of the founding fathers of the Dominican Republic, in Canal Street and Avenue of the Americas. To carry out this research, Santana will rely on the papers of Juan A. Paulino and Normandia Maldonado, co-founders of Club Civico y Cultural Juan Pablo Duarte, and whose archival collections are exclusively housed in the Dominican Archives of CUNY DSI.
