Biographical Note: Julia Santos Solomón was born in the Dominican Republic. She received a bachelor’s from the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University.  She studied for one year in Rome,  Italy as a participant in the RISD European Honors Program. She also studied at the Art Students League and earlier at the High School of Art and Design in New York City. She was a founding faculty member of the Altos de Chavón School of Design, the first school of design in the Dominican Republic. Ms. Santos Solomón taught a variety of courses and held several administrative positions there between 1983 and 1987. During that time, she painted and created silkscreen prints, which were shown in five solo exhibitions. In 1988, she moved to the Hudson River Valley, New York. Her previous work was reflective of the tropics in the Dominican Republic with its lush color relationships.  Her work in transition and her colors became softer and true to her new environment in the Hudson River Valley. Julia Santos Solomón has exhibited widely in the Dominican Republic, Italy, Switzerland, Puerto Rico, Rhode Island, and New York City.
