Biographical Note: Francisco Jos茅 Torres-Petit贸n was born in the City of Salcedo, Dominican Republic. He is the son of Pablo Torres Rodr铆guez and Amparo Petit贸n, sister of Dominican composer, pianist, and bandleader Rafael Petit贸n Guzm谩n. As a historian, Prof. Torres-Petit贸n conducted numerous workshops, seminars, and symposiums on Dominican history. He was a historian who documented and wrote about the history of the Dominican Republic, but more specifically the province of La Vega. Prof. Torres-Petit贸n served on various boards including the committee that organizes the Vega-Moca Marathon, Our Lady of Altagracia Committee, among others. He served as president of the Vegano Institute of Culture and secretary of the Instituto Duartiano de la Vega. Prof. Torres-Petit贸n lived in the Dominican Republic all his life and donated his collection to the CUNY Dominican Studies Institute Archives during a visit on November 29, 2010.
Scope and Content Note: The collection consists of business cards, certificates, music registration, obituary of certificate of Francisco Torres, music copyright, compositions, registration and lyrics, invitations to tribute to Rafael Petit贸n Guzman, newspaper clippings, programs, photographs, correspondence, and musical composition notebooks that were related to the musical trajectory of his uncle, Rafael Petit贸n Guzm谩n as well as their families in the Dominican Republic.
