Diego Renart is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Faculty of Art and Design at Yildiz Technical University in Istanbul, Turkey. His dissertation, 鈥淛uventud y arte de Silvano Lora. G茅nesis y acci贸n de un artista bajo la dictadura de Trujillo y parte de su primer exilio鈥 brings together the fields of Art History and Dominican Studies, areas that he will continue to expand as a CUNY DSI Fellow. Dr. Renart鈥檚 project examines the art work of Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) produced while in the Dominican Republic and which now is part of a collection housed at Olana State Historic Site and James E. Taylor (1839-1901)鈥檚 drawings in the Dominican Republic, preserved today in the Library of Congress. During his tenure as a fellow he will also examine the media impact of 鈥淐ontemporary Dominican Art,鈥 an exhibit held at Signs Gallery in New York City in 1981.
