Bronx Science-CCNY Scholarship Project

Founded in 1938, prepares leaders for the technological and scientific age of tomorrow, while offering a rigorous, well-rounded curriculum.

鈥淭his scholarship changed everything; suddenly, college wasn't some lofty pipe dream anymore, but an incredible opportunity for me to learn and get a great education without placing any burden on my family, and I simply could not ask for anything more.

鈥淚 want to take the skills and knowledge that I've gained through CCNY and that I will gain through my career and give back to my communities. In particular, in many of the rural areas of Bangladesh (where my family is from), higher education, career, and job opportunities are even harder to come by than here in the U.S.  I hope to one day change that and create those places of learning, higher education, and even work opportunities for the future generations of my people.鈥

Grove School of Engineering

鈥淎s a graduate of both schools, I decided to contribute to the Bronx Science Fund in order to help today鈥檚 young people have the chance for the same superior education that I received. How could I not support a fund that aims to continue access to a superior education for those less able to afford it? It was not a hard choice for me to make!鈥

鈥淎s an alumna of the Bronx High School of Science, I felt many of these bright students today need the financial support to continue their education.鈥

Stuyvesant-CCNY Scholarship Project

, founded in 1904 and widely acknowledged to be the most selective in New York City, has provided CCNY with many noteworthy graduates who have gone on to make their mark on the world in a variety of disciplines and professions.

This initiative recently received a donation from the Thomas J. Fararo Revocable Trust.

鈥淐CNY鈥檚 partnership with Stuyvesant definitely encouraged me to reconsider my college plans and think feasibly in terms of finances and affordability. Since I am in a BS/MD program, this scholarship has alleviated all of my undergraduate debt and will make a small dent into the debt I will incur from medical school.

鈥淚 am an aspiring physician, and one of my long-term goals includes giving back to the community that inspired me to go into medicine in the first place: the community in Moulvibazar, Bangladesh. I would love to go back and establish a healthcare clinic and create a pipeline program for underserved children, so that they can have the opportunity to experience higher education and go into the health professions.鈥

"When I attended CCNY, tuition was free. I donate each year so a current Stuyvesant grad can have the same opportunity that I had many years ago. Graduating from CCNY with Research Honors prepared me for graduate work that allowed me to enjoy a long career as a university professor.

Brooklyn Tech-CCNY Scholarship Project

For more than 90 years, has been a proven leader in science, technology, engineering and mathematics-based education.

鈥淭he scholarship helped relieve a lot of pressure regarding the need to pay for school. The scholarship pays for nearly all of my tuition and has saved me from taking on student loan debt. It also pushes me from the academic standpoint as I am forced to meet the GPA requirements in order to keep the scholarship. This has helped me perform well in most of my classes as the pressure made me study more efficiently.

鈥淢y major is mechanical engineering and I hope to become a certified engineer and possibly work for some of the largest manufacturing companies in the world.鈥

City College Honors Program

鈥淏rooklyn Technical High School and City College provided me a free education back in the late 鈥60s, allowed me to live my American dream, if you will, and be able to fulfill my career. Without the education and the tools and everything that I learned at both schools, I could not have accomplished what I did in my career, so I felt that I wanted to give something back today. I was fortunate to be able to go to school for free, so it is my way of giving something back and saying thank you for a wonderful education.鈥>

鈥淏oth my wife Nadia and I attended CCNY. We graduated in the early 1960s. At that time there was no tuition, just a $27 per term Student Life fee. Our contributions are a way of paying forward the benefits we received.鈥

Achilles Perry, BA 鈥63

鈥淚 have been an active supporter of Brooklyn Tech for over 25 years. The Brooklyn Tech-CCNY Scholarship Fund is another way of showing my appreciation to the two institutions that contributed to my career success. 鈥

The New Era Scholarship has benefited hundreds of students in its 12-year history.

鈥淭his scholarship was one of the best things that could have happened during my college education. I received this scholarship by being accepted into the Honors program at CCNY. This program is a tight- knit community that made my college experience less daunting and more inviting. Being in the Honors program, right away I was placed into a welcoming community of peers and advisors that allowed me to make connections with people and have fun during college.

鈥淢y major is mechanical engineering and I hope to work in the aerospace field. I wish that, in the future, I will be able to look back at my life and be happy with all my choices.鈥

Elizabeth Akinyemi

Grove School of Engineering

鈥淎s a former City College scholar, I felt it was important to give back to CCNY鈥檚 future generations. I want to be sure that other students have the chance to matriculate, learn and graduate with a top-notch education. I graduated from CCNY debt free and continued on to Law School. I was ably prepared for Law School and appreciated the invaluable education I received at City.鈥
