About
Salar Abdoh鈥檚 latest novel was A Nearby Country Called Love (Viking Penguin, Fall 2023); shortlisted for the international William Saroyan prize, it has been called "A complex portrait of interpersonal relationships" by the NYTimes and "Brutally poignant" by The Washington Post. His prior book, Out of Mesopotamia (Akashic, 2020), was hailed as 鈥淥ne of a handful of great modern war novels,鈥 and was a NYTimes Editors鈥 Choice, and also selected as a Best Book of the year across several platforms, including Publishers Weekly. He is also the author of Tehran At Twilight, Opium, and The Poet Game, and editor and translator of the celebrated crime collection, Tehran Noir.
Salar regularly publishes personal essays and short stories, plus numerous translations of other authors that appear in journals across the world.
A professor at the City University of New York鈥檚 City College campus in Harlem, he conducts workshops in the English Department鈥檚 MFA program and also directs undergraduate creative writing.
