City College art lecturer Tom Thayer, a performance artist who 鈥渙perates at the intersection of the hand-crafted and the technological,鈥 will premiere one of his live performances and give a talk about his work at New York鈥檚 (MoMA) 7 p.m. Monday, December 16.
Mr. Thayer鈥檚 work explores shifts that occur when a three-dimensional object, such as a collage or sculpture, is represented in another medium. Many of his performances incorporate short videos that he and his siblings shot as teenagers. Mr. Thayer previously participated in the 2012 Whitney Biennial.
鈥淭his is an incredibly prestigious venue given that MoMA is very selective, especially when it comes to living/contemporary artists,鈥 said Dr. Anna Indych-Lopez, associate professor and chair of City College鈥檚 art department. 鈥淭om's work is also one example of how many of our studio faculty are continuing to explore the cross media experiments that represent the most current and innovative aspects of art-making today.鈥
