
Distinguished Professor Raquel Chang-Rodr铆guez has been elected a member of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language.
Raquel Chang-Rodr铆guez, Distinguished Professor of Hispanic literature and culture at T九色视频, is the latest leading academic elected a member of the (ANLE), which is an affiliate of the Spanish Royal Academy. She鈥檚 been recognized by ANLE for her contributions to Spanish American literary and cultural studies and her many publications including those on the Spanish presence in early La Florida.
ANLE serves 60 million Spanish speakers in the U.S. It鈥檚 also one of 23 academies on four continents serving 600 million Spanish speakers.
A specialist in colonial literature, Chang-Rodr铆guez has written, edited, and co-edited several books. Her notable titles include:
- 鈥淟a apropiaci贸n del signo: tres cronistas ind铆genas del Per煤;鈥
- 鈥淓l discurso disidente: ensayos de literatura colonial peruana;鈥
- 鈥淗idden Messages: Representation and Resistance in Andean Colonial Drama;鈥 and
- 鈥淟a palabra y la pluma en 鈥淧rimer nueva cor贸nica y buen gobierno.鈥
In 2006, Chang-Rodr铆guez coordinated the collection 鈥淔ranqueando fronteras: Garcilaso de la Vega y 鈥楲a Florida del Inca,鈥欌 which was released simultaneously in the U.S. and Peru (English translation: 鈥淏eyond Books and Borders: Garcilaso de la Vega and 鈥楲a Florida del Inca鈥欌). A second collection was titled 鈥淏etween the Sword and the Pen: Inca Garcilaso and his 鈥楻oyal Commentaries鈥.鈥
In addition, Chang-Rodr铆guez edited 鈥淪eventeenth Century Literary Culture in New Spain鈥, the second volume of a new history of Mexican literature. She recently co-edited with fellow CCNY Professor 鈥淭alking Books with Mario Vargas Llosa: A Retrospective,鈥 and currently directs a five-volume project sponsoring a new literary history of Per煤.
Chang-Rodr铆guez has contributed to national and international projects such as 鈥淟atin American Writers鈥; 鈥淗istory of Literature in the Caribbean鈥; 鈥淒iccionario Enciclop茅dico de las Letras de Am茅rica Latina鈥; 鈥淭he Encyclopedia of Latin American History鈥; 鈥淪toria della civilt谩 letteraria鈥; and the 鈥淕uide to Documentary Sources for Andean Studies, 1530-1900.鈥 In 1992, she founded the 鈥淐olonial Latin American Review,鈥 a prize-winning, interdisciplinary journal that she directed until 2003.
