Speak Up Speak Out asks members of CCNY community to be photographed October 21 - 23 to highlight the problem’s universality

Speak Up Speak Out, a student-led program to increase awareness of domestic violence issues, invites member of the City College community to participate in a campus-wide photo campaign to highlight the universality of the problem. Photos for the campaign will be taken 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Monday, October 21, Tuesday, October 22, and Thursday, October 24, in Room 157, Shepard Hall on the CCNY campus.

“Everyone has the right to a peaceful life,” said Gargi Padki, the campaign organizer. “The most powerful way to end the cycle of violence is for people to learn about it and spread an informed awareness of what an abusive relationship means.

“City College students, faculty and staff who take a photo for the campaign will gain consciousness about domestic violence and realize that anyone is able to make a difference and impact their community,” added Ms. Padki, a student in the Macaulay Honors College and Colin Powell Community Engagement Fellow.

The headshots of the “everyday people” who model for the campaign will become part of a display to be exhibited at CCNY during “16 Days Against Gender Violence,” an international campaign November 29 – December 10 that calls for the elimination of all forms of violence against women.

Speak Up Speak Out was established through the Colin Powell Center Community Engagement Fellowship program in partnership with , a community center in Harlem that works to build safe families and peaceful communities. To get involved with the project, please contact Gargi Padki at speakupspeakout@outlook.com .
