The Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership is hosting 鈥淎 Day with the Colin Powell School at City College鈥event Thursday, February 27. The day will:
- Introduce the school鈥檚 first permanent dean, Vince Boudreau;
- Showcase the remarkable work of the school鈥檚 departments and programs, and
- Present new initiatives associated with the school鈥檚 founding.
鈥淪ince the Colin Powell School鈥檚 inauguration in May 2013, we have been intensively focused on creating frameworks to foster conversations on vital issues, introduce our remarkable faculty and students to new audiences, and implement our ambitious vision for the Colin Powell School,鈥 Dean Boudreau remarked. 鈥淲e see February 27 as an excellent way to offer New Yorkers a chance to see what motivates us every day.鈥
Bookending the day are two 鈥渃an鈥檛-be-missed鈥 discussions.
At 8 a.m., the Colin Powell School鈥檚 "Conversations with City" breakfast series at the University Club presents Dr. Don Meichenbaum, founder of the . His talk, 鈥淗ow to Bolster Resilience in High-Risk Children and Families: Ways to Close the Inequality Gap,鈥 is timed with the release of a new Melissa Institute study on resilience.
Dr. Meichenbaum, a City College alumnus, and one of the founders of cognitive-behavioral therapy, was named one of the profession鈥檚 10 most influential psychologists in an 鈥淎merican Psychologist鈥 survey of clinicians.
The University Club is located at One W. 54th Street, Manhattan (Transportation will be available after the event to City College.)
At 6:30 p.m., the Series presents David Marwell, director of the . Dr. Marwell was deeply involved in the search for Josef Mengele and other Nazi war criminals as chief of investigative research at the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Special Investigations.
His talk, located in Room 558, Shepard Hall, on the City College campus, will take participants behind the scenes of one of the largest and most complex historical and forensic investigations ever undertaken. It will include newly declassified, and previously unknown photographs and documents.
The CCNY Human Rights Forum is a collaboration among the Colin Powell School, the Division of Humanities and the Arts, and the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at the Center for Worker Education.
At 4:30 p.m., visitors are invited to a "Meet the Dean" reception in CCNY鈥檚 Great Hall, (in the neo-gothic Shepard Hall.) Vince Boudreau was named the Colin Powell School鈥檚 first permanent dean December 31, and this reception will provide a glimpse of his plans for the school as well as an introduction to its departments and programs.
The day also includes lunch, campus tours and opportunities to speak with Dean Boudreau, students, and staff, including the directors of the Colin Powell School鈥檚 new Office of Student Success and Office of Community Engagement.
