A creative group of students from T九色视频 (CCNY) and Brooklyn College teamed to win The One Club鈥檚 鈥淐reative Boot Camp鈥 competition in January. The team, Nadine Charles, Sherifa Gayle, and Ricardo Paredes from CCNY, and Chanie Kaminker from Brooklyn College, worked on an advertising campaign for a new laptop developed by Hewlett Packard. They will attend The One Show in May in New York City in honor of their win.
鈥淲inning the competition gave me a feeling of pride and a 鈥榗an do鈥 attitude,鈥 said Boot Camp winner Nadine Charles, a CCNY senior from Brooklyn who is a BFA student in electronic design and multimedia. 鈥淭his competition made me realize that there is so much I am capable of doing, and that 鈥榯eam work makes a dream work.鈥欌
The competition, held January 19 - 22 for CUNY students, involved nine teams of four students chosen at random. Chanie Kaminker, a junior, majoring in marketing at Brooklyn College, said 鈥淭he Creative Boot Camp really showed me what a job in the industry would entail, and I鈥檝e learned a lot about the creative process. I would recommend this program to anyone who wants to learn more about advertising as a career."
The students worked on this exciting and competitive campaign non-stop for four full days to develop a unique campaign to advertise the new laptop. 鈥淚 enrolled in this competition because I wanted to try something new,鈥 said Ricardo Paredes, a senior from Yonkers at CCNY who is also a BFA student in electronic design and multimedia. 鈥淚 did not know how the advertising world really worked, so I wanted a real close to real life experience. Wanting something is not always enough, you have to put time but mostly passion in what your goal is. With passion time is limitless.鈥
鈥淭he Creative Boot Camp was very intriguing, and helped me to really get a hand on how to interact with others to get the job done,鈥 added Sherifa Gayle, a CCNY senior from Manhattan majoring in advertising and public relations.
The One Club is a professional organization for advertising professionals that was founded in 1975 and is based in New York. It is the world鈥檚 foremost non-profit organization for the recognition and promotion of excellence in advertising and design in all its forms.
