CCNY celebrates Women鈥檚 History Month 2024 with herstory events and more

T九色视频鈥檚 Office of Student Life and Leadership Development is celebrating Women鈥檚 History Month with Women's Herstory Month Events including an art exhibition, movie screening, honorary wall and more. CCNY students can register by signing into their Student Life account .

, author of 鈥淐areers in the Fashion Industry,鈥 will be in the NAC Ballroom on March 5 from 5-7 p.m. promoting her book, and the first 25 guests will receive a free copy. On March 7, the CCNY Women Make Art Exhibition, co-sponsored by CCNY Libraries and the Alumni Association, will showcase artwork continuing a 17-year tradition at the college.

The screening of 鈥淎merican Symphony,鈥 the award-winning documentary featuring Jon Baptiste and Suleika Jaouad, will take place on March 14 from 4-7 p.m. in the NAC Ballroom. The National Marrow Donor Program co-sponsored the event and free food will be provided.

The Unveiling of the Women鈥檚 Herstory Month Honorary Wall will take place on March 19 from 12-2 p.m. in the NAC Rotunda. Participants will learn about the history of inventors, artists and other significant women throughout history. From 5-8 p.m. in the NAC Ballroom, the Beauty Justice Fair, co-sponsored by We Act, will feature clean beauty products with giveaways, makeovers and free food.

On March 21 from 12-2 p.m. in the NAC Ballroom, the Women鈥檚 Herstory Month Mocktail Sip and Paint will allow participants to recreate a painting commemorating Women鈥檚 History Month while enjoying delicious mocktails and free food.

A list of Women鈥檚 History Month events follows from CCNY鈥檚 schools and divisions:

  • On March 7, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Center for Worker Education Auditorium, a book release and reception for Jenny Saavedra author of 鈥Suelta el Miedo, No Est谩s Sola,鈥 hosted by the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies at CWE, will take place.   • On March 8, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at CCNY, Carlos Aguasaco, professor and chair in the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at CWE, is co-sponsoring 鈥淔orum on Law and Justice: Empowerment of Women鈥 with Judge Carmen Vel谩squez.
  • On March 12, from 9-10 a.m., the Zahn Innovation Center in partnership with Standard Chartered brings you a virtual expert talk featuring Nyalleng Moorosi, a senior researcher at Distributed Artificial Intelligence Research (DAIR) Institute. Register for 鈥淐entering the Margins - How the algorithm builder affects model capabilities.鈥
  • On March 12, from 4-6 p.m. in Shepard Hall, Room 350, the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership presents 鈥淏ook Talk: From Homemakers to Breadwinners to Community Leaders.鈥 Author Norma Fuentes-Mayorga, director of Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS), will discuss her new book. The Colin Powell School also appointed Psychology Professor Adeyinka Akinsulure-Smith as the inaugural Mabel Shelby Fellow. The new fellowship, supported by a generous gift from Sally and Tom Kitch in honor of Sally鈥檚 mother, invests in faculty doing research on topics related to women and gender studies. Akinsulure-Smith鈥檚 new research examines the impact of the migrant crisis in New York City on women from sub-Saharan African countries.
